FORUM - Page 27 Empty Everything Is A Risk!

Post  WTF Tue May 28, 2013 9:39 am

Too chez: Darko Milicic would have a higher upside than Ben Wallace at a much cheaper price. Forgive my hyperbolic analogy for a moment and consider the point it illustrates. Sharp has compared a player who has not even played a minute of summer league to a guy who joined Tim Duncan, David Lee and Dwight Howard in a group of five elite offensive big men that averaged 16 and 10 or more at Greg's efficiency level last season. Greg is the youngest in that group by 5 years. By comparison, Sharp is not even talking about a top draft prospect, he's suggesting this late lottery pick has greater potential. Without playing a single second in the NBA, isn't it a bit risky (and unfair to Greg Monroe) to pencil in Cody Zeller in a group where everyone other than Greg is a multiple All Star in the worst case or a multiple MVP in the best case?

Who knows, there might be a second round pick in this draft that ultimately has a higher career arc than Greg Monroe. With that, Sharp may not be wrong. But to compare the two players now, and to declare Cody Zeller the higher upside player is not only foolish and presumptive, it's also quite dismissive of the accomplishments of Greg Monroe.

First this is complete Bullsh!t and the author of this article along with the rest of the world makes these same assumptions as Sharpe in every draft. He may differ in opinion of Sharpe but he is no more right than Sharpe but what he does is make a flawed comparison of Monroe to the likes of Duncan, David Lee, and Dwight Howard to define Monroe as an Elite Big Man facepalm Monroe is not even in the same ball park of these players. I assure you Monroe career stats are miles away from at least 2 of those players.

Secondly it is just as equally insane to assume Monroe that hasn't reached his peak, there is nothing that says his numbers will get any better than this season or that next season he would be any better at the PF position. As far a jump-shot goes Zeller has already surpassed Monroe. Zeller also has a better motor and likely will be a far better defender than Monroe.

Bird in the hand my ass, is better than 2 in the bush, this is like saying I've already pass the 2nd grade why risk going to the 3rd grade and possible failure. This is what happened with lol Boy[/b]

Yes You Would Homers, Why? Because if they were in the same draft Zeller would be the better player! facepalm You can't look at what Moose has already accomplished as a pro and make any claims of him being the better players.

If Zeller and Moose were the same age, with no pro experience, in the same draft Zeller would likely be kicking on Moose's ass much in the way every Big White Center in the league been whipping on Moose's ass.

Does anyone remember when Jason Kidd was all the rage and some nutty fans, through the national media, were calling for Tony Parker to be traded from the Spurs to make room for Kidd? Popovich stood by his PG and San Antonio's management showed faith in "Pops" by supporting his decision; Tony Parker is playing his ass off and driving his team toward another finals appearance (possibly a World Championship), and Kidd's broke down ass is at home watching. The fans in San Antonio are glad that they still have Parker; maybe someday the fans in Detroit will be glad Knight wasn't traded.

I don't know how/why some fans are calling for a 21 year old, second year player's head but, are still looking for a place to fit in a 26 year old diva with six years of experience in leading his team to the bottom of the standings. We make a big thing out of the turnovers but, turn a blind eye to the failed attempts at the rim. A great deal is made of Knight's assist totals but, Stuckey's mediocre assist numbers are excepted.

FORUM - Page 27 Empty Dennis Schroeder

Post  deusXango Sun May 26, 2013 10:29 pm

Don, Dennis Schroeder a 6' 2" PG from Germany is only one of four Euros slated to go in the first round that are young and highly skilled; it's a matter of what a teams needs are and what type of coaching environment they would be drafted into. A little known talent from Russia is Sergey Karasev a 6' 7" SG/SF and that's probably due to the fact that there is an abundance of American players to fit that bill. Giannis Adetokoubo, "the Greek Freak" holds more interest because of his combination of size and skillset; not only is he young and raw, he's quite light in the ass to be a 6' 9" SF/PF. The highest rated, and my personal favorite, is a bona fide talent from Croatia who stands 6' 10" with genuine PG skills that plays SF now but, is projected to be a nightmare playing PF in the NBA; his name is Dario Saric.

To answer your question, yes, it's possible for a player to be taken after #8 that can become an outstanding player in the NBA but, why a little known Euro when there is so much info on American college players in a draft that's supposed to be thin in talent? I started beating the drum for Saric some time ago without so much as a whimper from anyone on this site and I'm thinking it's for just the reasons I just stated. Joe has been always looking for a steal in the draft and fallen flat on his face; let's stick with what we know and hope for the best.

Do any of you know this player? A friend called to report that he thought Schroeder is a sure thing to make it in the NBA as a point guard. He is listed as a first rounder on most draft boards. I guess he has exceptionally quick feet and quickness and plays tough defense. Somebody is going to come out of nowhere and become the steal of the draft. Is it possible for some player who is not picked before number 8 to become that player?

Memphis has been missing free throws and that has cost them big but their effort is outstanding. The amazing adjustments made by the Spurs in this series makes me think if they can avoid injuries, they might be the champs. The game last night between Indiana and Miami was a great game as well. That is a beautiful thing to see if you love basketball.

No Sh!t Don, this is MUST SEE basketball!

Both series have their own differing levels of intrigue, but I'm amazed how the Spurs are beating the Grizzlies!

First of all, Tony Parker is clearly without argument the BEST PG in the league, with Chris Paul 2nd, but down a full notch! Why?
1. Parker can get anywhere he wants!
2. He can create his own shot
3. He's a guard that led ALL players in the NBA in points in the paint(a guard? WTF!)
4. Oh, and then there's that little thing of the number of rings!

On second thought, Paul may be 2 notches down from Parkers level!

Then there's Duncan and Manu! Whatever these cats are drinking, I want some! Clearly it's related to Ponce De Leon, and some of the fountain of youth stuff!

But give credit to Splitter and Scrubalini, they are throwing ZBo way off his game, while Duncan is schooling Gasbag nightly!

The Grizzlies got their revenge on the Clippers, and now SA is about to serve up that cold dish themselves!

I don't have a clue how this is happening, I thought Grizz in 4, so what do I know!

BTW: Knight should look at a lot of the aspects of Parkers game.
1. Excellent ability to hit floaters in the lane
2. Finish at the rim with either hand and in traffic
3. Regularly will challenge bigs and win

Knight has the speed of Parker but not the skills(yet), and just like Parker, everybody wanted to trade him yearly, but he eventually got better! But what Knight has going for him is that he possesses the heart of players like Parker, and that will see him through!

You are a true basketball fans Oracle. I love what you have said here and feel exactly the same way about Parker and Knight. It was also amazing to see that Gasol was exhausted and couldn't function well because he was clearly out of gas while Duncan is in such fantastic condition at age 38 it seemed that he could have played all out for another 20 minutes.

Now tonight will Indiana beat Miami? Can the new hero of the playoffs, Paul George , continue to make heads turn saying "what the"? Winning that game in Miami should allow the Pacers to focus on each and every minute of this game knowing that they are not under the pressure of going down 3 and 0 if they lose. I think the pressure got to Memphis last night towards the end of the game. They stopped playing like they were capable of playing as they demonstrated in the first quarter. Still I don't think Memphis will just give up in game 4. They have to look back at the missed free throws and still think that they have a chance.

FORUM - Page 27 Empty The Truth About Our Team

Post  deusXango Sun May 26, 2013 12:04 pm

After years (that seemed like an eternity) of watching poorly played basketball, because it was poorly coached, and the roster was something like a nightmare of Dr. Frankenstein's, we can't see what we have going for us today. As the coaching search continues to hopefully acquire the brightest mind, with patience for teaching young players the fine points of the pro game, yet command the respect of talented veterans, I want to turn your collective attention to who should be our core players first.

At this point in time we are all sold on Andre Drummond as being "the Man" for a number of reasons, most of which were totally unexpected (that full page ad thanking the fans for their support and the warm welcome he received coming to Detroit, did it as much for me as the athleticism displayed on the floor, and the patience & tolerance he showed a dumb ass coach). The team should be built around this young man and Greg Monroe is one hell of a building block (he just arrived before AD), that should have the benefit of at least a year under sound coaching to show the wisdom of that statement or not. We should stop looking for the hypothetical negatives and wait for the positive realities! Why in the world Khris Middleton, a player who only got better and better as time went on and opportunities were given to him, doesn't receive more support than he does is beyond me; he's already displayed some diverse offensive skills against professional competition that Shabazz Muhammad didn't at UCLA, plus his outside shot is more reliable. I think he should at least be given a look at starting SF with Drummond and Monroe this coming year; if not this year, what year are we waiting for? I'm eager to see how BK7 comes back this coming year, hopefully without Calderon, Stuckey, and Bynum to contend with as who's best fit for starting PG duties. I think these players presence on the team were as responsible as anything when it comes to the frenzied mindset Knight displayed, and with their absence he'll play a more heady and controlled game.

Singler, Jerebko, Kravstov, and the expiring Villanueva makes for a decent bench, considering where we've been with bench support for years. That's 8 of 12 active players that can be relied on to show marked improvement under sound coaching, and those 8 make it easy for the organization to draft at #8 and be successful with whomever they pick because he's slated to be a bench contributor coming in (as it should be!) With the "terrible three" gone could C.J. McCollum make sense as Knight's backup? If Zeller fell to us would it really be a logjam with the big men that couldn't be managed? All I know for sure is with at least one, if not two, rookies coming in and room to sign the best fit FA or trade for that huge contract player that would benefit us, is possible.

Oracle, and Murph, I applaud your standing in the gap for these as yet untried young men, because these are the fresh faces that we'll be cheering for quicker than we expect.

FORUM - Page 27 Empty Pistons Should Absolutely Not Trade Greg Monroe

Post  Murph Sun May 26, 2013 9:14 am

Thank you Oracle for posting that Mike Payne article. I thought that article was very well written and researched, and made perfect logical sense.

And thank you Philip for posting this. I agree 100%:

"Let's say Greg Monroe was in this draft. Would you pass on Monroe to draft Zeller? HELLO NO!

Greg Monroe is A pistons from now until as far down the pipe line as my Piston eyes can see. Give up on it and forget about it.

And thank you DX for posting this:

"Oracle, thank you, Thank You, THANK YOU!!! I'm so sick of hearing all the negative slanders and calls for Monroe to be removed from the Pistons (for absolutely no good reason, only fictitious voodoo blather) I don't know what to do. That was a well written article by Mike Payne that all Pistons fans should give a read. Monroe has done nothing to deserve anything other than our support."

My hope is that Monroe playing along side Drummond will lessen the importance of Monroe's defensive deficiencies, and allow Monroe to focus on what he does best, which is score in the low post, rebound and pass out of the high post. And we've seen evidence that this is true, in past seasons. When Monroe started along side defensive specialist, Ben Wallace, Monroe's defensive deficiencies were less glaring, because Big Ben always took the toughest defensive assignments.

Zeller would be a nice addition to that front court as well, as Zeller probably possesses several skills that Monroe and Drummond lack, such as mid-range shooting, and the ability to guard stretch 4's on the perimeter.

However, what we're lacking is a Head Coach with the experience and expertise to integrate those three big men (and maybe Kravtsov) into a front line that's dominant both offensively and defensively...assuming Zeller is available in the draft at #8.

Sorry but I cannot agree with you guys. I think Sharp is thinking that by trading Monroe we will obtain an elite player. Zeller is only the extra ingredient needed to help this team improve. Monroe has been in the league for 3 years and has not shown that he can run the floor well or defend at all. He is always out of position on defense and that cannot be the coaches fault. How can a team win if the starting center cannot defend? Look at Duncan tonight. He was the difference in that game. At 38 years of age, he consistently beat Gasol down the court and every other player from both teams most of the time in the 4th quarter. He would have Monroe for lunch. But I don't think that anyone wants to run Monroe out of town. He is an asset because of his offensive ability. He is young and with a change of attitude, he is capable of becoming an average defender at least. I sure don't want to trade him to Miami for Bosh who doesn't want to play for the Pistons. Monroe is to valuable to trade if it is a financial thing only. We need an elite player at any position. And we need a young player like Zeller who has a lot of potential. He is a gifted athlete who can play defense and has a mid range game that will work well if he plays with Drummond. We need another experienced big man who has been through some playoff wars and that guy must be able to play defense giving hard fouls and being aggressive on the boards every night. I know that none of you Piston fans are interested in Hansbrough or perhaps D. Collision who is a restricted free agent on Dallas right now. All I know about them is that they both play all out all the time and are effective defenders. Collison could provide the Pistons with a good back up point guard. Some of you guys really know a lot about the financial end of NBA basketball. Maybe those two players will be asking for way too much money. Do you know of any other players who might be a good fit? My thought was that maybe they won't and Detroit could get two effective players cheap. The Pistons need to go in a different direction. We can all agree that the current team has shown that they do not have the right chemistry. Perhaps players like I have just mentioned would change that and set a new tone helping our young guys go in a more positive direction regarding attitude. Tony Allen is another player that could bring that type of thing to the Pistons. I would like to see Detroit pick up at least one player who is now playing in the NBA Final 4. Notice that Josh Smith is not playing in the Final 4. And if Smith were a real winner type, why in hell would Atlanta let him go? No the fans and management in Atlanta are not sure Smith is fully committed to the game of basketball in all aspects. I am for getting Smith if he is not paid some crazy amount of dollars and that is what he wants. Show me the money is the only thing on Smith's mind. I am not thinking as big as some of you Piston fans. I will be happy to keep all of our young guys and just add a better supporting cast. Players who love being in shape and love playing the game of basketball would be something that we Piston fans have not seen for several years. We will never see it with guys like Stuckey, Charlie V, Bynum, or Maxiell. What are the odds that all four will be back next season playing for Detroit? They kill any chance for our young guys to improve. Knight needs to play with somebody like Tony Allen or Collison or Hansbrough. None are stars but they could light a fire under the asses of guys like Knight and Drummond. Mercury suggested that Jerebco can fill the same role that a Hansbrough does right now for Indiana. Maybe he is right and maybe next season Jonas playing with a new coaching staff can become a Battier type tough guy who is extremely active and physical. Right now our bench is filled with pussy type individuals who offer nothing for our young guys trying to improve.

And we have fans who don't like him. We all see things a little different don't we

Don...I missed the Miami/Indiana game. I really can't stand watching Miami.

But from the box score, I see Hansbrough finally had a decent game, in very limited minutes. For the post season though, Hansbrough is averaging 4.5 pts and 3.5 rbds, and shooting 42%...well below his season averages.

Taking Cody Zeller in a bad draft is one thing. I agree that he might be the best player available at the #8 spot.

But signing Tyler Hansbrough to a 5 year free agent contract is something altogether different. The guy is a scrub. He might be a hustling, hard working, undersized scrub...but he's still a scrub.

I mean, if we want a hustling, hard working, undersized scrub...let's just bring back JMax. We could probably get him cheaper than Hansbrough.

Murph it is clear to me that you have not been watching many Piston games if you suggested bringing back Maxiell inferring that Maxiell would be the same value to the Piston team. What Hansbrough does often never shows up in the stat sheet. Notice what Battier has done the past two seasons in Miami. Battier comes in and hits people. His job is to rough the opposition up even if he is called for a lot of fouls...Hansbrough does this same thing. He has high energy coming off the bench. He has destroyed the Pistons every game he has played against them now for two seasons. He does that because he runs the floor fast. He sets up to take the charge...We have soft big men like Monroe. He could learn a lot from Hansbrough. I am not for giving him a 5 year contract but a 3 year contract would be one of the best things Detroit could do to improve this team. We need 3 big men who can play. And I really feel that Hansbrough is flat out a better option regarding helping the team win games than Monroe. He would force our young big men to work harder because everyone in the league knows that Hansbrough will never stop giving everything he has in a game. This guy is no star player but he is the type of player that improves a team.

Umm...Don? I see your guy, Psycho-T, had exactly 0 pts, 2 rbds, 0 asts, 0 stls and 0 blks, last night against the Heat.

Is that really the guy you want the Pistons to sign to a 3 year contact? Sometimes I don't understand you. You clearly know far more about basketball than I'll ever know. But then you'll fall in love with scrubs like Tyler Hansbrough and Jimmer Fredette.

And if you think Hansbrough would be a better option at PF than Greg Monroe, you're delusional.

Wow you have missed my point Murph. I am worried that Dumars will sign Maxiell again. Do I believe that Hansbrough is a guy who has a brighter future than Monroe? No I do not. However, there is no denying the fact that Hansbrough kicked Monroe's ass and all of the other Piston big men on every meeting over the past two seasons. Is he a better athlete? No he is not Murph. But Hansbrough plays his butt off to get the max out of himself and that is always good enough to get the best of players who don't try as hard of have basic defects in their games like Monroe. Monroe has slow feet. He was never interested in learning how to defend so the result is that he has become the worst starting big man defender in the NBA. I seldom see any Piston big man run the court all out from offense to defense with the exception of Jerebco who is no banger type player. Murph did you see Hansbrough dog it last night? No you couldn't have if you watched the game. But Hansbrough got his clock cleaned by Labron the best player in the game. How well do you think any of the Piston big men would have done last night including Drummond? Could the coach trust them in the game? The Indiana coach clearly trusts Hansbrough based on his past performances. Hansbrough comes in games and likes to get physical. He throws his body around and counters what Sean Battier does when he comes in to push and shove bodies around. And Mercury I love Jerebco but Jonas doesn't do that. Don't ignore the first game of this series where Hansbrough was extremely effective as the announcers pointed out. What I like about Hansbrough is the same thing the Pacers coach likes. You can always count on him to play hard for every second he is in a game. That would look good to me considering we have Charlie V. our half speed wonder. Don't worry we won't be seeing him in a Piston uniform. We will see another version of Maxiell or Maxiell himself. I have very little confidence in Piston management to bring in tough hard nosed players that any team needs to win games. The Piston big men lack toughness. The big men coming off the bench play weaker than the starters. We need bench guys who are willing to put it all on the line every night. I love seeing that win or lose.

The Pacers, who aren't that good of a team have stolen HC advantage!

While the Pacers aren't that good, they matchup with Miami VERY well, and are the worst pairing possible for the Heat!

Either team in the west can beat the Pacers! The Spurs would run them to death and the Grizzlies would beat them at their own half court game!

The Pacers are a turnover prone team, and if they could fix that I would give them more of a shot at the title!

Either way, I WILL be rooting for the Pacers unless they face the Grizzlies whom I'm rooting for to win it all(Prince, get your sh!t together!)

Joe has built a career of his NOT being there when his mates turn around looking for somebody to have their back!

I back Joe, but I don't pretend that there aren't things I don't like about him, it's just that you overlook some things when their one of your own!

Joe threw a lot of the 2004 team under the bus... regularly!

His poor treatment of Chauncey and RIP is legendary!

Yeah, he would deserve a good thumping, but we don't, and Joe stands between us and a bunch of Jason Collins lovers(Ok, I'm not really that mean, but I couldn't resist).
