drummond is only 18!!
he's a kid!!!
not every young player is kidd-gilchrist.
i think drummond just needs some good coaching, some time on the court and then he'll be fine.
just rebound, defend and dunk the ball. that is all he needs to do for a few years.
and even though he wasn't great in college, he did those things pretty well.
he is exactly what the team needed.
i'm just so happy that the team did not pick henson.

what is milwaukee doing?
larry sanders?
udoh?
now john henson?
those guys are all basically the same player.
looks like hammond is getting a joe d syndrome, falling in love with a type of player and drafting or trading for that guy over and over again.

WE got to get US a Real Starting Small Forward ...
1. Amnesty Charlie V.
2. Support Maxey in his probable decision to opt-out.
3. Give Big Ben a new job description: "Working with Drummond".
4. Go after Jeff Green or Ersan Ilyasova with money gained from numbers 1 and 2.

Andre Drummond!!!
I just got home from my son's u-12 basketball game. I can't believe Drummond fell to 9th and Joe was lucky enough to scoop him up. Unbelievable. Proving once again, it's always better to be lucky than good.
Great pick!

joe d was lucky, but also smart...
gotta give joe credit on one matter...Murph wrote:I just got home from my son's u-12 basketball game. I can't believe Drummond fell to 9th and Joe was lucky enough to scoop him up. Unbelievable. Proving once again, it's always better to be lucky than good.

lots of other gms passed on drummond because they got scared.
joe didn't.
now, i think drummond will be worth the gamble, but obviously, seven other teams didn't think he was worth the gamble. if they had thought so, he would have been scooped up at the second choice.
so joe d does deserve credit for taking the gamble on the guy everyone thinks is probably the second most talented guy in the draft.

I would be shocked if #1 happens. After a year only 6 of 30 teams have accepted that choice. Rich guys probably didn't become rich by forking out millions to make people go away, then spending mo millions to replace them.
I really hope #3 happens.

Can we give a round of applause to the luckiest GM in the NBA?[Only admins are allowed to see this image] I gotta give it to Joe, he's working. Can't wait til "after all is said and done." Hoping for Kyle O'Quinn at #39 and Scott Machado at #44; for me this will be an +A draft. We've now got in our possession all the resources we could hope for to pursue a top tier SF. Quincy Miller continues to fall. Whew!!

Joe's Draft Grade 2012
#1 Pick Drummond - A+, off the charts... nuff said!
#2 Pick Khris Middleton - C, he's at his lowest point, so there's nowhere but up, but can he come back?
#3 Pick Kim English - B+, he essentially replaced BG with a player that actually can come off the bench and hit the 3 ball all night long with good accuracy, and is a good defender with good size.
Final Grade - The first pick, being in the lottery is weighted a lot more than the lower picks, so I give Joe a final grade of A-, which is a very good draft!

UNDRAFTED?
Should they go undrafted, Furkan Aldemir and Scott Machado should be in the Pistons camp come September! I think Joe stumbled with the #39, but he recouped quite well with #44. It ain't over 'til opening night, so I'm going to wait and see just what Joe does from now until then.

Be Patient with Drummonds Piston fans.
This is A project pick Piston fans. This Kid is big but he don't know shit about basketball and he is raw as A slab of pork ribs.
It's going to take 2 or 3 years before you see what this kid can really do. Just like Andrew Bynum. It's going to take 3 years.
The Pistons main job will be to develop this kid and make sure he works with the best of the best to get better and even bigger and stronger as time goes on.

Mr. Dumars,
Congratulations ... We needed size and presence inside, and in Drummond we got it ... Great work! Like Phillip said ... we have to patient .... 18 years old .. But I think he should be in the rotation from the get go and hope he can start before the season is over (that is NOT being patient but ... ) ... Is there any danger in starting him from the get go? Probably .. but I hope he is starting by January. But ... I guess that is rushing it? Now where did Macklin go? I was also hoping we could have added 2 big men, not one, seeing we did need 2 big men ..but .. looking at the draft board and the player ratings, there was not any big man better than what we drafted rating-wise. If Dumars SIGNS a good FA BIG, then I will back off the bad deal complaint for the 1st pick plus Gordon to the Bobcats... Some are out there but they are restricted and I dont know why any FA wants to come here without OVER-PAYING them .. something the GM and all fans should be leary about... Some of the best are: Roy Hibbert, Indiana Pacers (restricted): Chris Kaman, New Orleans Hornets, Robin Lopez, Phoenix Suns (restricted): and Jordan Hill, Los Angeles Lakers. Kaman seems do-able ... Would 3 years at 9.5 million be too much or too little for Kaman?

True, he's raw and a project, but as frankie said, all he needs is 25 minutes a game, and let him run the floor, get lobs, and play defense. With the accent on playing defense, because I don't care if his offensive game takes 3 years to develop, the kid can intimidate and hold his own down low on day one!!!
Project this: He's 18, 6'11 and 280lbs... He's still growing!!!
This kid could wind up 7'1 and 320lbs by the time he's 22!!! That's an Effing Center!!!
Because he's a project, that makes it a requirement that we get someone like Kaman to come in and share the load.
Between Kaman, Drummond, Monroe & JMax, we would have guys that ARE centers, and guys that can play one on TV!
We will be able to matchup with any team in the NBA, and I haven't seen that since we used to have WOW(Wallace, Okur, Wallace)! Now we aren't anywhere near that class of talent yet, but you get my meaning!

Hey Frank...
I like short rotations as much as the next guy, but you've got to decide if you're going to develop a few players or a few more.
IMO, we've got to expand our rotation just a bit to accomidate new talent, and we HAVE to stop playing the dead weight!
As lemonpen said, Ben Wallace had better be named Clippy, because there's no good reason for him to see one minute of PT, not even in Darko time.
Bynum and the scrubettes should only see time in blowouts, but that's it(or be traded?).
I would like to see Macklin get a fair shot, but IMO, these guys MUST get PT.
Drummond - I'm not worried about him, I know he'll get PT, and Kim English, the situation player(3pt specialist) should see PT.
The bottom line is that I know you can't play everybody, so you'll have to selectively play the logical future players of this team.
Unfortunately, that may leave Austin Daye out in the cold, because I'm struggling to see how he fits in now.
The bottom line is that if we don't get this right(coaching), we're going to miss the playoffs, simply due to chemistry and poor use of talent!

Get off of Drummond, truth be told everyone drafted last night is a project until they make a name for themselve in the NBA as a player. Knigght and Monroe were projects when they got drafted but just like Knight and Monroe were no brainer picks so was the Drummond pick.
Not only was it a No Brainer pick it was a need pick as well. Stop hating on Drummond because Joe didn't draft Rivers Sour P-Boy

Great post Oracle, aimed at the need for quality coaching. No one's saying Lil' Larry is not a quality coach, but that now he has the players to prove it, or step aside. No more sh!t like what went down last year with Macklin not playing (in spite of his across the board productive stats, as a Piston!), but playing the likes of Wilkins, Russell, and Bynum for extended minutes.
Right after the 4th of July holiday passes, Ben Wallace should be off to "the Cage" in Alabama with Drummond, to start working on developing his young body, and while Wallace is at it, put some knowledge of the game in his head. When he returns in the fall Rick Mahorn will be waiting to put a trick or three (screw a trick or two) up his sleeve. The Pistons family of big men have always been a quiet close knit group of guys. If Wallace is to retire, there is no better way for him to transition than grooming the next great defensive center, either as an assisstant coach or personal trainer. Gores has the coin to spend on his investment in Andre Drummond. Two years of that is better than two years of Lil' Larry's screaming and ranting.
I don't know what tomorrow may bring, but as it stands now, the logical rotation should be something like this: PG-Knight, SG-Stuckey, SF-Prince, PF-Monroe, and C-Drummond, with a bench led by: Jerebko, Macklin, Maggette, and English.....the remaining lucky three cheer, wave towels, watch, and be ready if called on. Just a thought; who's Joe gonna decide on for the team, Singler or Middleton? Another thought; will Machado show up for FA camp?

I'm with you on that lineup, but I would add situational players like JMax and another acquired bigman to the bench. I'm not sure about Drummond starting on day one, but that's the lineup you have to see by midseason.
Either way, it's close enough for horse shoes, and I'm really excited now!
BTW, did anyone else notice the booing Stern got? I kind of ignored it in my excitement, but it's making news. This from Fox Sports picking winners and losers,
"LOSER - NBA Commissioner David Stern
The NBA commissioner was booed loudly from the start, and when he spoke glowingly of the despised world champion Heat. Instead of letting it go, Stern egged on his tormentors by sticking his hand to his ear and encouraging them to keep it coming. Basically, he conducted himself like a kid who got the only lollipop, then talked smack to the other children between licks. Not exactly what you're looking for from the leader of a league that is constantly trying to convince fans it's legit."
