The Real Notes and Quotes from the Indiana game not the stuff we get from the beat writers - by Biff Burns

Biff Burns: The Pistons lose a close game and two out of three this year to Indiana. Hoosier Daddy?
Coach Frank: Obviously the Pacers.

Biff Burns: Your team went 7-26 on the road this season. Why is it so difficult to win away games in the NBA?
Coach Frank: Why is the sky blue? Why are deserts dry? Why does another tissue pop up when you take one from a Kleenex box? Nobody knows the answer to these questions. Even the great Einstein in his prime didn’t have a clue.
Biff Burns: I don't think that is correct, but I’ll pass it on to the fans.
Coach Frank: Please avoid that if at all possible. I'll say I was misquoted.

Biff Burns: What is wrong with Rodney Stuckey? He had zero points tonight and in his last five games he has averaged 3.8 points.
Coach Frank: He injured his thingy.
Biff Burns: So why are you playing him in meaningless games?
Coach Frank: How dare you! There is no such thing as a meaningless game.
Biff Burns: If you can’t make the playoffs it is meaningless.
Coach Frank: We will just have to agree to disagree on this one.

Quotes you might not believe:
Metta World Peace: Elbow was unintentional
Hugh Hefner: Nudity in Playboy magazine was unintentional
Germany: Invading Poland in 1939 was unintentional
NASA: Moon landing in 1969 was unintentional

Dumars: Mr. Gores since you are a huge cash cow billionaire, how many free agents can I sign in the off season?
Gores: How many did you sign up last time?
Dumars: Just four, Prince, Stuckey, Wilkins, and Russell.
Gores: And how much did that cost me?
Dumars: About $58 million.
Gores: Such a deal! Was our attendance near the top of the league?
Dumars: No towards the bottom.
Gores: Have you figured out that when I answer your question with a question that I am avoiding giving you a concrete answer?
Dumars: It had crossed my mind. I’d like to sign Chris Kaman.
Gores: Let’s play Rock-paper-scissors. You win, you sign Kaman. You lose you get Mr. Nobody.
Gores: Ha! Scissors beats paper. You lose. You get Mr. Nobody.
Dumars: Okay double or nothing or two out of three?
Gores: Forget it. Go eat a jelly donut. It will make you feel better.

Vince Ellis: Kentucky's Anthony Davis would make dream duo with Pistons' Greg Monroe
Biff Burns: And Biff Burns and Angelina Jolie would make a dream duo, but I wouldn’t bet on it. The probability of that happening is not very great.

Vincent Goodwill: Pistons vow they'll make playoffs next season
Biff Burns: Don’t let your mouth write a check that your body can’t cash.

Biff Burns: Where are you going in such a hurry, Joe?
Dumars: I’m going out to Radio Shack to buy an electronic device that enables me to eavesdrop on visiting coaching staffs. Hey, it worked for the New Orleans Saints. They won a Super Bowl. We can win many championships with that little electric doodad.
Biff Burns: I don’t think you will find it at Radio Shack.
Dumars: How about the Apple Store?
Biff Burns: Yes, maybe there or K-Mart. If they don’t have it try a place on Opdyke called “Spies R Us”.
Dumars: I could bug the Palace and every NBA arena and pile up championships like Phil Jackson. Then we would have to change the name of “6 Championship Drive” every year.
Biff Burns: I think you have a hidden desire to work for the CIA or a sign company.

Biff Burns: The last game of the season is Thursday home against Philadelphia. They clobbered the Pistons three times this season. Will history repeat itself? Will both teams actually show up and play well? Stay tuned.

"In all honesty I could have given 50 names, but because you seem to think that having already won a championship is required criteria for replacing Joe than in your small minded world no one can replace Joe."

The Fact is there's nobody's really out there who has Joe's resume who is easy to get in Detroit. Say that! Admit that! Deal with that! Eat that!

Same thing with Phil Jackson. Very few coaches can step in and say I'm over qualified to replace Phil Jackson. Just that simple.

So if you want A change just say that. Stop trying to back it up with BOLE ASS, FANTASY Names because I see right through that bull shit!

Give this man time to rebuild this team. Dame, it took Joe 4 years to build the championship team. It has not even been 4 year yet with the new owner in town.

You see that's you problem PBoy I wasn't trying to back it with names dum dum I only reply your request for names.

The fact that Joe has been a complete fuck up the past 8 seasons speaks for itself. It's 2012 numbskull that title was 8 years ago. Joe hasn't had a meaningful trade PBoy since landing Sheed or more accurately put since LB landed Sheed for him.

Damn skippy it's time for a change been that why since 2009 when he fired Flip and traded CB, should have been fired when he wasted 22 million on Ben and Charlie. Even you PBoy should question 90% of the move Joe made since being hired.

You keep harping about resumes which means nothing really, people got to start somewhere, begin somewhere Joe is rank 24th amongst GM been rank that way the past 4 years because of all the dumb shit has done but you too far in his ass to see.

True 7 consecutive ECF's and a Championship is all wonderful a great accomplishment but the flip side to that PBoy is every basketball mind in the NBA also know that dum dum blew a Golden Opportunity at having a true Dynasty because he was afraid to make real moves take a chance on improving his team.

Right blame the owners (Bill Karen and Gores) Blame LB for 2005 and Flip for 2006, 2007, and 2008, blame the players, blame the lockout, blame the new CBA, but it's Joe name on everything since the drafting of Cleaves to this current losing season.

This team want be contending next season nor the season after unless your hero decides to man up and make meaningful and major move. Otherwise his ass needs to be fired period.
Freaking Cheerleader........

And you didn't answer my question either. Should that same way of thinking be used when you children done with college and have no resume to back up being hired? Or should some company owner take a chance on them?

FORUM Empty It appears that perhaps Piston management is fed up with the Piston guards with the exception of brandon Knight

Post  cool breeze Tue Apr 24, 2012 9:40 pm

After checking NBADRAFTNET today, maybe this site has some information on what Piston management might be thinking about. Could it be that Dumars has finally given up on Stuckey, Gordon and Daye? Will Detroit try to make a deal this summer to land some new big men. Monroe has been a big disappointment on the defensive end over the last month. He has no clue what he is doing getting stuck out beyond the three point line a lot when the ball goes up. He just watches the other guys trying to rebound the basketball. Monroe is still valuable but Detroit needs some defense in the paint and it isn't going to come from this draft of weak defensive big men. NBADRAFTNET has the Pistons taking Rivers from Duke with the 9th pick. And another guard is listed in the second round. I think this would be a good move to draft guards this spring as Knight is a keeper but the rest are so inconsistant that Detroit will never make the playoffs with the current vet guards on this team. Can Detroit hand Kamen? Will Jerebco become stronger kick his game up a notch next season? Will Maxiell be on this team next season? I believe that Gordon, Stuckey, Charlie V, Maxiell and Bynum might be on the trading block. That might not be a bad decision by management. I would sign Singler and bring him in as a back up to Prince. Get two hungry guards in the draft and bring in some powerful defensive minded big men to convert this team into a defensive powerhouse. That is what Detroit basketball fans appreciate.

I don't expect my children to walk off the streets and become the GM of A franchise. If that happen I would tell them to save every penny because as soon as you have A down time (And you will have A down time in this business because I'm in the business. Not NBA level but I'm in the business) People who don't know any better ( SOUR CYNIC) and who think having success in sports or rebuilding a program takes 2 days, they will call for your head. And ask that you be replaced with some Kid fresh out of college looking for and opportunity.

I will tell my kids. As soon as you make 1 bad decision, (this will happen) people will forget everything you did and all your success (Just like You Sour Cynic). And they will call for your head like nobody's business.

I will tell my kids when you are given An opportunity and you do take advantage of it, then you have earn your right to prove yourself over and over. That's what I will tell my kids.

You still didn't answer the question PBoy. I didn't ask when what and where and what would happen if given an opportunity. What I asked was should that same theory of be used when they they seek employment. Should they be told that they don't have the credentials or should they be afforded the same opportunity Joe was given when he didn't have the experience?

Stop advoiding answering what I actually asked you. Truth is you would find it unfair PBpy.

Also stop it with the one mistakes, Joe has made major mistakes not one mistake, and the 2004 Championship doesn't wash it all away. Joe needs to be called to the carpet on his bad decisions which has yet to happen within the local media nor by the previous and current ownership.

But forget what I'm saying because all my gut feeling say's Gores fire Joe over the summer or demotes him.

FORUM Empty Royce White

Post  Sebastian Thu Apr 26, 2012 2:16 pm

I may have to agree with the Pistons fans, who have suggested that OUR 1st round draft pick should be used to select Royce White.

Like frankied has said, elsewhere (at pistonpowered.com), if the Pistons are able to have a proper series of psychological and behavioral tests performed by specialists in the field and White is deemed capable of dealing with the array of challenges involved with being an NBA player, then I say draft the dude, too.

Royce White may prove to be the best player at the SF position on a Pistons roster, since Grant Hill.

Then hire him as an assistant coach or trainer, enough of him blocking the development of players. The team would have been no worse or better had Macklin got the playing time Big Ben was getting and Macklin would have been all the better for it going into next season.

This isn't just with Macklin, but any potential bigs we might draft this summer.

I can understand it's time to move on with the next gen... but I think Ben would be a good candidate as a player/coach... play when it's time to set an example... get on the young fellas when they need a kick in the pants to understand what it takes to get to the next level.... "enough of him blocking the development of players."

What A bone-Head comment from A bone-head, low basketball IQ Person. Ben is not blocking anybody's development. What A silly way of thinking.

I agree that nobody want's Grand Pops around all day preaching to them about this and that. So eventually you want Ben to hang it up like he said he was. But at this stage of the process for the Pistons, Ben has only helped the young guys especially in practice and off the court. And Big Ben can still play. That's how Ben should walk away.

Good effort, good work from the head coach, the new owner, Joe Dumars and his staff. Everything is in place to bring this franchise back to being great again. Now we need some power moves, some development from within and some DAMN LUCK in the form of the # 1 pick and Anthony Davis.

No major injuries makes this A good season in the right direction. GO PISTONS!! tb

Rett...good post. Sounds like a great night.

I'd love to see Ben Wallace on the Pistons bench as an assistant. In fact, I'd like to see him take on a role like Herb Williams in NY. Williams sticks around no matter how many coaching changes the Knicks make, and he acts as a kind of ambassador for the team, a go-between between the players and coaching staff, and a big man coach. I could definitely see Ben Wallace in that role for the Pistons, if he'd want the job.

FORUM Empty Final Grades

Post  Murph Fri Apr 27, 2012 10:15 am

Monroe A....A brilliant sophomore season. Already one of the best centers in the League.
Macklin B+...Why didn't this guy play more, especially with our shortage of big men?
Stuckey B....Finally played his natural position, and played well.
Wallace B-...Big Ben had a wonderful career, but it's time to retire gracefully.
Knight C+...Struggled early, but finished strong. Shows a huge amount of potential.
Jerebko C+...I'd like to see him report to camp 10 lbs lighter and ready to play SF.
Prince C+...Coasted all season.
Maxiell C-...Permanently undersized.
Gordon C-...Very disappointing year, considering he was finally healthy.
Bynum F....Joe needs to draft a reserve PG in the 2nd round.
Daye F....Disasterous year.
Wilkins F....Why do I have to watch this guy?
Russell F ....It was nice of Joe to give Walker Russell a shot in the NBA.
CV Inc..Only 2 more years left on his contract.

Overall Team Grade: C-...After a disasterous 4-20 start, the team played .500 ball the rest of the season. Let's hope they pick up where they left off next season.

Lawrence Frank: B...Any coach that can get this roster to play .500 over the final 42 games of the season must be doing something right.

FORUM Empty The Real Notes and Quotes from the Philadelphia game

Post  Fennis Dembo Fri Apr 27, 2012 12:52 pm

The Real Notes and Quotes from the Philadelphia game not the stuff we get from the beat writers - by Biff Burns

Biff Burns: Congratulations on your retirement.
Ben Wallace: Bret Favre just tweeted me. He said go ahead and retire you can always change your mind three or four times and make numerous comebacks. The media and fans love it and you get a lot of publicity.
Biff Burns: He’s not wrong.

Biff Burns: What do you think was the most important thing that happened to the team this season.
Coach Frank: We took the most important step on the road to success. We learned what not to do.
Biff Burns: What was that?
Coach Frank: Don’t start the season with 4 wins and 20 losses.

Biff Burns: The Pistons tied an NBA record for most 3-pointers in a quarter with 11 in the second. Gordon made seven during the flurry while forward Charlie Villanueva had three and forward Jonas Jerebko added one. Too bad they didn’t do it more often earlier in the season when they needed it. Too bad Charlie V played in only 13 games.

Biff Burns: Your boss Tom Gores was asked what are realistic goals for next season. He said, "We better make the playoffs. That's realistic."
Joe Dumars: Uh, oh, I had better make some good draft choices and sign some free agents that can actually play.
Biff Burns: If you don’t something tells me your going to end up like Brandon Inge, bought out of your contract and released.
Joe Dumars: I just got a new app for my smartphone. It’s called Good Player/Bad Player. It will help me with the draft choices and free agents.
Biff Burns: It’s a shame you did not have the app when you chose Darko and signed Charlie V.
Joe Dumars: It’s a good thing I like you Burns or I’d have you tased by the Palace security.

Biff Burns: What do you have there, Joe?
Joe Dumars: Just a little gift for the team, some coffee mugs. See it has “World’s Greatest Team”. How do you like this one it has, “World’s Greatest GM”. and has my picture on it. We will be selling these little gems in the gift shop next season.
Biff Burns: It seems to be crass consumerism and shameless self promotion at its worst.
Joe Dumars: I like to call it merchandising.

Biff Burns: Will there be any change in the coaching staff or front office?
Joe Dumars: No, I have my staff of yes men that only bring me good news and jelly donuts and that puts a smile on my face.

Biff Burns: Salt N Peppa performed at half time. Which one is which? Okay I just got that.

Metta World Peace: I thought the coaching staff had a bounty out on that guy, like the Saints in the NFL.
Biff Burns: You ought to change your name to Metta World War. It would be more appropriate.

Biff Burns: My final summation of this year is, well another season down the drain. Have a great off season fans. Smoke ‘em if you got ‘em. Drink ‘em if you got ‘em. Sayonara and adios.

Announcement over the Palace PA system: Biff Burns please contact your home planet.
