Stones & Halftime

What do you think SVG will do as Meeks and Jennings get healthy...after time to show they are 100%?

I agree, I would prefer that Stanley get all of Meeks minutes for development and trade Meeks for a 2nd rounder or something! I really hope Jennings can eat up all of Blake's minutes, and use him only for emergencies that Dinwiddie can't handle!

Stanley's defense is looking good, it's what's keeping him on the floor, because his offense is pretty inconsistent.

Speaking of Dinwiddie, the bloom is way off of that rose!

Reggie illegitimate son of Samuel L? Yup, I could buy that lol , and are you saying that Blake isn't Smeegle? Sure had me fooled lol.

Portland Halftime: We have our work cut out for us! The defense has been good, but Portland is shooting lights out! If we can't put that fire out, we're going to lose!

Meeks and Jennings

It is a good thing that SVG had Jackson, Meeks, Jennings, KCP on the roster. Having depth has really saved us. They're also young, so expecting anything approaching perfection isn't something we're going to get.

They need time to grow, and IMO, Reggie has been an excellent floor general in crunch time recently, and I do judge a PG by not only wins, but how he gets them!

More importantly, I've long since stopped looking for prototypical anything and started looking for winners. Can you name the last NBA champion that you would be sold on? Not likely, no "Floor Generals" in the standard sense, no centers, no PF, not even standard systems!

It's a new NBA! Sure the bottom line basics are still the same, like it taking defense to win, but damn near everything around roles has changed!

Oracle I agree that the team is young and need to build chemistry but IMO roles are only different now in this new NBA because so many players are lost on fundamentals.   I have no doubts that Jackson just like Jennings are extremely talented and will win some games for us but I also know that they both need to be more fundamentally sound at running an offense.

The Pistons are paying Jackson and pretty penny and Jennings not that far behind at 8 mil.  It's just me but I don't like PG's that shoot 18-20 plus shots a game.  If he was hitting shot like Curry then please by all means do so, both our Championship PG's (Thomas and BIllups) have set a STANDARD for intelligence and what we should expect from our PG's.

I'm not saying either are horrible but they're slightly above decent.

We agree that neither meet that standard, but the point you keep missing is that neither of them(Zeke or Chauncey) met that standard for YEARS! Short memories don't remember that Chauncey needed Larry Brown to help him figure out what a championship PG needed to do, deep into his 6th team in the NBA... it takes time and coaching!

It's not where they are, but where they can get to! You keep expecting fully formed maturity, when it takes time.

So while I see the exact same thing you see, all I'm saying is that some of these guys will grow to "Get It" and live up to that standard, and if not, may fulfill another role. BTW, nobody ever got better hitting shots by NOT taking them!

KCP is a case in point! He's still not where you want a SG to be, but it's he's a 2 year player! He has a lot of growing to do, and while you want him to be a championship SG, he's still likely 2 years away from being that good, and it's not all skill level, it's also body maturity too. Trey Burke is also in the same boat, but he lost a starting position that I'm hoping he can get back!

So while we should expect our PG's and everybody else to live up to those standards, it's a question of WHEN!

Sh*tty Schedule

Post  FlyDog on Sun Nov 08, 2015 11:21 am

Open in Atlanta, 3 games in 4 nights..........and now we sit around and rust while the rest of the NBA gets into their routine and into a rhythm. Some teams have played as many as 8 games.

More on Stanley

Post  lemonpen on Sun Nov 08, 2015 10:14 am

Cool Breeze was right about the kids tools. Stanley is a high quality athlete with ++quickness and strength, and as advertised he handles the ball really well. But, it's becoming apparent that like many young, inexperienced guys SJ excelled primarily due to his abundant physical tools. Our guy is not displaying the craftsmanship of a full blown baller. What seems to be missing is patience, fakes, change of speed, and an understanding of 2 man basketball (give-and -go, use of screens, back cuts .......). Right now he is the bull in a china shop.

It will be interesting to see how much progress occurs between game 1 and 20.

No longer Trey Booger & Phoenix Game

Post  Oracle on Sun Nov 08, 2015 4:39 am

Who is this Neto guy any how??? The Jazz already have a potent guard who I hope is finally finding his way now that the team around him is getting better!

Jazz vs Grizz wrote:SALT LAKE CITY (AP) Trey Burke committed himself to being more professional during the offseason - better sleep, better workout regimen, better focus.

So far, so good.

Burke scored 24 points, including a career-high six 3-pointers, and the Utah Jazz held off the struggling Memphis Grizzlies for an 89-79 victory on Saturday night.
Good work Trey, now snatch your gig back!!!

Phoenix Game Observations:

  1. Since Knight came to Phoenix, they decided that this year they would focus on defense, and it's paying off. They played pretty good defense against us, way better than I expected, but our defense was just better! It took us awhile to adjust to their speed, but once we did, the turnovers got less.
  2. Knight is a freaking speed demon! Once he gets up a head of steam on the break, or even the half court, he's tough to handle. They may struggle to make the playoffs in the west, but if they continue to play defense, they'll have a better shot than last year, especially now that they finally have some size at center!
  3. Marcus is just a very good player! He's never too high or too low. He doesn't try to do too much and plays within himself, and is a willing passer if he doesn't have anything going, I wish Dre could learn that and pass the damn ball at times! I honestly had no clue that this deal would or could have turned out this good! This is close to what Joe did with the 2004 team! He found guys just about to break out and all they needed was a chance... amazing! If they put him in jail, I'd consider rounding up a posse to break him out!
  4. As Wise said, and I laugh, how silly it looks to even think Stanley cold take Marcus's job! I never thought is was a possibility to start the season, but I did think it was possible by midseason... now, it looks even further away!
  5. Stanley is overwhelmed right now and a tad confused, but I don't expect it to last into next year, he should get better some time in December. Winslow is playing great for Miami right now, but I still believe that Stanley will turn heads soon!

This and that...

Post  Oracle on Sun Nov 08, 2015 4:33 am

@Fly & @Phillip - Yes Fly, it does look like we have our closer, and KCP did have a great game, making 8 out of 10 is amazing! Phillip, DEFENSE is finally back in the "D", and I love it!!! Illy is the bomb... for about 1 quarter, then he sort of peters out. That's why I wouldn't say no to a second Morris if the price was right! It would be worth a try because they're at a good age to grow with the team, and they're nowhere near the cancers that I was envisioning!

@Lemonpen - Solid thoughts on KCP, Reggie, Stanley & Morris! The Morris move certainly is making SVG look like a genius! BTW, speaking of genius, if they keep playing like this, they'll make you look like a genius with your win prediction!

@BallinD - That was a nice piece on Moose, and he destroyed the Nets tonight! BTW, Sissy is right on about the Avatar!

@WTF - Wise, I was with you all the way in your observations until you said this: "I'm still not sold on Jackson being a Floor General". I Like Being 4-1 but.........

Post  WTF on Sat Nov 07, 2015 8:00 pm

I expected a win in Phoenix as well as wins in Portland and Sac-Town and they might even the Lakers as well. I hope like heck Jennings gets back soon and fall inline and take on the role of 6th Man. The 2nd unit still concerns me though I can't see another 2 point effort coming anytime too soon.

Stanley looked good being the main focus in Summer League weak competition during preseason now has to learn to function in the second unit and without a real PG to get him the rock he will look lost often. Jennings might be able to get him going being in the second unit with him. LMAO! We had some crazy over the summer wanting Morris gone and Johnson starting over him. Too Funny!

I'm still not sold on Jackson being a Floor General, he like Jennings can put up numbers are a threat to score but IMO their half-court game is suspect to say the least.

Andre you have to get better at the FT Line! You just have to period!

Moose, Where Were You When We Needed You

Post  BallinD on Sat Nov 07, 2015 5:41 pm

According to SI.Com.  Nice piece on the Mooster.

Moose on the Loose Link

Why did he never decide to learn to stretch the floor while here...playing as a power forward...playing for the stretch forward whisperer...with Drummond, who rules, and needs to be in the post????facepalm facepalm

The latter paragraph sounds familiar, eh!!

"Monroe showed some versatility on the offensive end. His first two buckets in the game came off jumpers a little above the elbow, before he went right back in the post for another score. The midrange game is a point of emphasis for Monroe, who is trying to stretch out as far as the 18-foot range. The added space in Monroe’s game could help open up the Bucks’ offense, for which shooting could be an issue as their young players develop.

Monroe’s hot start in New York eventually gave way to some struggles. He exited the first quarter with two fouls, then seemed to grow agitated with the antics of Knicks center Robin Lopez, whose boundless energy clearly frustrated the Bucks center. Monroe finished the game with only eight points, never again finding his rhythm amid foul trouble and unlucky rolls off the rim.

A Few Words

Post  lemonpen on Sat Nov 07, 2015 4:02 pm

It's early, but it's again fun to be a Pistons fan.

Four games later, Stanley is still pressing the issue, on both ends of the floor.  Unsuccessfully I might add.

Reggie J looks too much like a black hole.  B4 crunch time.  He seems to want to be the guy either making the shot or delivering the assist.  He has to display greater trust in his mates by giving up the ball early in the shot clock.

Marcus Morris has to be one of the best value players in the Association.  Production vs contract = SVG Genius.

KCP is becoming a nice two way player.

Down The Stretch

Post  FlyDog on Sat Nov 07, 2015 6:37 am

Looks like we have found the closer that we've been looking for ever since we tried stuffing Stunkey in that role. Reggie may not be the prototypical PG, but he sure knows how to hit big shots when the tream needs him.

Great to see that KCP had a nice efficient game. Blank finally hit some shots. Marcus came up big in his emotional return to Phoenix..............good stuff.

Didn't I just read how Andre's FT woes were behind him?

I still can't believe Detroit is playing defense again

Post  Phil1980boy on Sat Nov 07, 2015 5:12 am

It's been so long since Detroit has played defense. It's like seeing A good, old friend. In Detroit, when defense is played, championships start to become A reality.

Man, I would love to get both of the Morris brothers playing in Detroit.

Drummond did not look happy at the end of the game and I'm happy about it.

Jackson learning how to be A closer. I love it!!

Illy is one tuff muther...f.u.c.k.e.r. That guy goes hard on defense. Not the soft EURO I thought he was. I really like Illy. Illy was battling Morris tooth and nail!! They was going at it. Morris picked up two fast fouls and A TECH!! Illy got under his skin like A bad rash...

Keep working S.Johnson. Keep working ROOKIE!! Good defense. The scoring ability will follow soon but not right away. not even for Durant and Lebron when they were young. it takes time. Keep working.

The Pistons have B.Jennings now as trade bait and cap money this summer to make this team deep!! And A 1st round pick. 1 good trade this season, good health, and A better more confident Stanley Johnson. This Pistons team will be really good and really deep.

What a Butt Ugly Game, but...

Post  Oracle on Sat Nov 07, 2015 12:54 am

If they could eliminate the STUPID turnovers, they'd be blowing suckers out!!!

Bledsoe & Knight are a tough duo, but we defended the rest of the team down to a nub!

If we can keep defending at this level, we'll be alright!

SVG needs to take Drummond out when he knows they're going to foul, we could lose games like this, and it would be a coaching loss!

Reggie Jackson really closed this one out like a good solid guard should!

Marcus Morris's boys had his back, and gave him the win over the Suns, I like that!!!

One down...

Interesting article on Morris. He sure does seem to be hung up on his "Paltry" 20 million dollar contract. Although, he does admit, that's a lot of money "Where he comes from." Uh...........Marcus? That's a lot of money where Saudi Princes come from. I love the way he is playing. I hope he realizes that winning playoff games will earn him more money than empty stats on a rotten team. With that said, I like his game, and he's off to a great start in Detroit. Keep it up.

Post  FlyDog on Fri Nov 06, 2015 6:46 am

Good one Oracle! I beg your pardon.  Most of the cum was on their backs.  I stand corrected.

Thanks for the confirmation Oracle and DX that I'm not being over-sensitive.  I am dreading this day...........could not sleep.

Looks like SVG wants Lil Stan to just concentrate on his Defense and not worry about his Offense yet.  After watching Ellis and Stunkey torch us on wide open shots, I think he makes a good point.  I think the 2nd unit starts making strides when Blank or Buttock actually draw some iron on 3 balls.............help spread things out a bit.  They both look like complete spazzes right now, missing everything by a foot or 2.  Or 3.

Interview with the Pistons 2nd unit spoke person!

Post  Oracle on Thu Nov 05, 2015 2:33 pm

Baba Wawa: We understand that times have been tough... how do you guys feel today?
2nd Unit: We were hard asses in the preseason, but when they flipped the switch, the other teams looked mean at us!

Baba Wawa: Did they say things to you?
2nd Unit: Yes, nothing that I can repeat here, but we were scared!

Baba Wawa: I'm just observing you, and I noticed that you never seem to bend over?
2nd Unit: We've learned that when you bend over, bad things seem to happen!

Baba Wawa: What can you do to turn this around?
2nd Unit: We've invested in bullet proof butt protectors, they give us confidence to go out there and compete! Also SVG has hired a consultant to help us, here's her picture!

Baba Wawa: How do you feel when posters like FlyDog says things like this? "Blank, Dimwitted and Buttock still have dried up cum on their chins"
2nd Unit: First off, let me be clear, the cum wasn't on our chins, we were bent over, so it was on our backs, but that's not important here! We demand respect, and I say judge us on this road trip... this interview is OVER!!!

Dogs, Fly & DX!

Post  Oracle on Thu Nov 05, 2015 2:21 pm

I have to agree with DX, you're not a pussy, you're a normal human being!

I got my first dog when I was 7 years old! Queenie turned out to be a fantastic pet that was fiercely protective of the entire family! We had so many adventures together, me on my bike, her following along.

After 16 years, she had some kind of lump on her chest, and we took her to the doctor, and he said that she needed to be put down!

Seriously, I didn't handle that well, and cried like a 12 year old girl! I loved that dog more than a lot of people I knew!

So my advice is to not ignore your feelings, the relationship between a boy/man and his dog, as DX said, is vastly underrated if you've never been blessed to have one!

Speaking of Cutting Ties.......part 2

Post  deusXango on Thu Nov 05, 2015 11:59 am

Fly, my heart goes out to you brother; in my estimation "a boy and his dog" is the most underrated relationship in the world. It's joked about, but the emotional attachment is something special.

As a youngster in Pensacola our neighbor poisoned my cocker spaniel and it left me devastated...many years later I raised my brothers lab from a pup (he became my dog!!) and he was the most gentle, albeit silly, friend I had...had is the operative word here. I haven't had a dog since then, until I met this wonderful woman who has a cocker spaniel!!! It's now my dog.

Do what you must Fly, but remember, the more things seem to change, the more they remain the same...you'll find another "friend" because you have that type of love in your heart.

Welcome back Bro'.
