When is Drummond gonna decide to own the paint and stop letting those little guys throw it in over his head. Maybe they should shorten his minutes so he can play hard whenever he's in. Looks like he coasts a bit for my taste.

Jennings is doing well for the most part, but the way Teague blows by him is disturbing!

Teague appears to be able to do anything he wants to Jennings, but at least Jennings is holding himself up on the offensive end, and matching him at 5 assists for the half!

It's amazing we're up 3 now!

I have never seen a pro team have so many breakdowns after scoring! It's almost like the Pistons go to sleep after a score, like most dudes after sex Smile

Secondly: Can we afford to trade Stuckey?

Without Stuckey we don't beat NY, and we aren't in this game tonight! Hell, Stuckey is leading this team like an alpha player!

I'm really happy for Stuckey, and if he plays like this, I won't have a problem re-signing him... if we can afford him after the other offers come in!

This is a young player that even though he's not a defensive wizard, he's an outstanding talent; with what he already does and he was a great defender, who shot free throws like Chauncey Billups, he'd be an elite superstar!! Come on fellas, let the young man grow and mature into the player he's supposed to be. All players coming into the league have shortcomings, that take years to correct. We gave Stuckey six years to grow up in the NBA and his contributions were nowhere near what Monroe has done for this team in the last three years, why can't we give Monroe the same type patience?

I'm convinced that we have something special in Monroe, Smith, and Drummond and to try fixing something that's not broken is insane; there is a cost for special, which Tom Gores has gone on record saying he's prepared to pay, so what's the problem? I guess some of us like to fault find and bitch.

He is the best free throw shooter on the team and (folks hate when reminded of this) is in a contract season. Yes, Stuckey, who is currently 27 years old (turns 28 in April) and the father of two, is playing for another contract.

Stuckey is a very significant member of the '13-'14 Detroit Pistons!Joe
Seb...I agree with what you wrote.  But you can't be a Stuckey cheerleader, and bash Mo Cheeks as Mr. Magoo, at the same time.  Because Cheeks made it clear all the back last summer that Stuckey was going to be his main reclamation project, and play a major role with the Pistons as a combo guard off the bench.  That took a certain amount of vision on Cheeks' part.
Yo, Murph, I respect your comment, regarding Mo's support and vision of how Stuckey is to be utilized, this season, in this aspect Mo' and I are sympatico. And, I would like to note that Mo has coached two good games out of the first 10, the Kings game (in Sacramento) and last night's game against the Knicks.

I thought that Mo should a lot of decisiveness and confidence, when inserting Siva in the game as OUR roster only had one of the 5 point guards on the roster really available to play, last night, as Jennings was experiencing a degree of illness, Chaunce is suffering from "old NBA player infirmity, and Will B. has a hamstring ailment. Cheeks went a long way a displaying his confidence in guard core of OUR roster. Also, I thought that it was a great play drawn up to end the 1st half, where Datome was called up to take the shot to end the half that fell. By the way that play will be has been used, in previous games, and I am sure WE will see it, again, with positive results.

But, Murph, I cannot excuse Mo's reluctance to call timeouts in an effort to stop runs. Also, I would like to see Mo' not call Singler's number, as the second man off the bench and I would like to see T. Mitch get some minutes, too.

After the first ten games, Mo' Cheeks is 4-6 and WE've lost, at least two games (Memphis and the Lakers) that WE should have won.

Maybe, Mo' is more like Mr. McGoo than you are willing to admit to. Maybe, Mo' will find his way, much like Mr. McGoo seems to somehow, always, seems to find his way.

Full Disclaimer: I didn't object to the hiring of Mo' Cheeks. I still believe that he relates to the players, far better than his immediate 3 predecessors (Curry, Kuester, and L. Frank) and I am confident that his players respect him, equally as much.

I would like very much to see Mo' succeed, as the Head Coach of OUR Pistons and dare I say hoist the Larry O'Brien Trophy some June, soon.

Peace, my fellow Pistons Pal.rockon

Oracle, that was a great post, and something that needed saying. First off, whoever wrote these articles don't seem like Pistons fans!! Cold shooting is not our most pressing problem, and our rookie is getting better from game to game.

Rodney Stuckey and Charlie Villanueva, ain't going nowhere! That's stupid, at this point. Stuckey seems to have found his nitch, under Cheeks coaching, and is playing the best ball of his career; he's doing it for us, so why trade him now?! We didn't amnesty CV, nor could we trade him when it was necessary, so now what can we do that will equal $8.5 million falling off our books? We don't have the room on our roster to store the scrap we'd get for CV, and God help us if we took a comparable contract player! Can you imagine what he'd be like? Our rebuild is well underway and next year those expiring contracts will be used to resign two important players in that rebuild; Stuckey and the Moose. CV's roster spot will finally show some value in his absence.

FORUM Empty Stuckey is doing well, but it won't fool GM's

Post  Oracle Wed Nov 20, 2013 3:38 pm

They can see that Stuckey is making his bones against 2nd unit scrubs to get going.

That doesn't mean he isn't playing against starters as the game progresses, but he sees them after his ignition has already started and he's harder to stop.

So any GM looking at Stuckey will likely want him to still come off of the bench.

He's playing well for us, but if the right player can be had by trading Stuckey & CV, I wouldn't hesitate to pull that trigger!

"Finally, the Pistons are another slow-starting Eastern team, and league-wide speculation is they will try to move the expiring contracts of guard Rodney Stuckey and Charlie Villanueva in search of more talent. The Pistons could act soon, sources said"

FORUM Empty Trade proposal

Post  Go Stones! Wed Nov 20, 2013 3:19 pm

Celtics want to get rid of Wallace and Humphries:

Trade Rondo (all-star PG), Wallace (hard-nosed veteran back-up) and 2nd round draft pick for

CV (expiring contract), JJ (hard-nosed young player) and Jennings (provides near all-star PG).

Allows us to be more potent at SF backup and upgrades our PG even more. Still have the option to renew contract with Stuckey, if desired.

Rondo, Bynum, Siva
KCP, Stuckey, Billups
Smith, Wallace, Singler,
Monroe, Smith, GiGi, Mitchell
Dre, Monroe, Jorts

Only other option I see is if Joe D wants to dump Stuckey and CV and pick up another near all-star caliber player for SG. I'm betting that Joe D will resign Stuckey based on how he is playing under Cheeks...but in reality it is b/c it is a contract year.

FORUM Empty Moose's Next Contract

Post  Sebastian Wed Nov 20, 2013 2:36 pm

deusXango wrote:...the team is beginning to take shape, led by Rodney Stuckey's emergence as one of the leagues best 6th men, and Josh Smith's versatility as a SF. The reliability of our big men play (Monroe and Drummond) is strangely effective; how can two double-double machines not keep anyone from "ball rooming" to the rim? Brandon Jennings is doing what we said we wanted from our PG; high assists, low turnover rate. The curse that goes along with the treasure is those wild ass shots he insists on taking. KCP is slowly cranking it up and I hope he continues to improve, because his position as a starting SG for us is the most fragile position on the team. Stronger defense and consistent free throw shooting is hopefully being worked on.

Oracle, Singler is not the problem, but he's not a viable solution either; the question remains, why does Cheeks continue playing him for all those minutes, when there are other options? Until that question is answered by an open competitive comparison, on the court, during actual games, with equal time given, between Singler and Datome, then Singler's minutes are politically gifted, with bias, much like what Lil' Larry did with Maxiell. Almost every fan wanted to see Drummond play with Monroe, but it was for the most part not allowed (Lil' Larry always managed to coach around doing that); I'm a fan who want to see Datome play extended minutes on the 2nd unit with Stuckey and Drummond! At this point I don't view that as a problem either, but quite possibly a viable option.

Murph, I agree with you that tonight's game will be a test of how much we're progressing; we've got to win tonight, if we have any hopes of taking the next two games from the Hawks! If we are indeed better than the Hawks, we must take the next two to prove that point. Al Horford and Paul Millsap are as steady and reliable a duo as they come; they don't play no weak ass ball inside, and Jeff Teague is playing a vastly improved game, so yeah, this will be a test.

Contracts: If Stuckey continues to play as he has, I have no problem with resigning him, but I think it's f#cked up to put a price on his worth, just like putting one on Monroe; overpay Stuckey again (I remember when the last contract was negotiated and some fans were talking him up for a $10 million a year contract, and he held out for that), but trade Monroe for peanuts, because we "can't" resign him for peanuts (he also played under the same adversity that Stuckey did). Let's see how this season plays out before we put any price tags on anyone; how about letting the powers that be settle the financial end of things, if it's best to keep both Stuckey and Monroe?
DX, I agree that Stuckey's next contract is one that he and his agent will have to negotiate, perhaps more convincingly than some other 2014 NBA Free Agents will have to, but Moose's forthcoming pay grade is pretty much set somewhere near Cousins new wage, but certainly higher than what Derrick Favors recently signed (4 yrs./$47.7 million); indeed his restricted status will allow for other teams to determine his salary if Joe is allowed to resign him.

And, here lies the conundrum (or hesitation) of resigning Moose. Do the Pistons want to invest roughly 22% of its salary cap on a player that WE all know is noticeably flawed? If Moose continues to average 16.4 pts, 9.4 rbs, and 2.8 t/o and not be able to stop players, like Bargnani, Jermaine O'Neil, Jordan Hill, and Steven Adams (OKC), then Joe is going to have to move Moose for a better piece or pieces.

Remember Moose fans: It is not personal, it is business!

FORUM Empty Greg Monroe hasn't improved on the defensive end and until he does, this team is not going anywhere but down

Post  cool breeze Wed Nov 20, 2013 12:50 pm

MONROE: I have been watching Monroe a lot on defense lately. If you get a chance just ignore everything else going on and see how Monroe thinks on the floor. He is slow to react and often completely loses focus and has no idea where his assigned man is on the floor at certain times. He fails to even attempt to box out. This is the way he has played defense during the past two games in the first half. It is as if he is just trying to coast and to me he looks like he is almost asleep at times. Then at halftime, the coaching staff must be on his ass because he usually picks it up a bit but never enough. You look at his stats and would believe that he is doing a great job. However, no team can win consistently if there is a player on the floor getting major minutes if that player is doing what Greg is doing. And I am not sure he is capable of improving much. His brain is slow to react and being that he is not really quick, that spells doom for the team. Unless he can pull at rabbit out of a hat before next summer, Piston management must trade him or Monroe will need to settle for much less than a max contract.

DRUMMOND: The difference between Drummond and Monroe is real clear. Drummond is playing with great emotion and desire while learning how to do things the right way. He is making mistakes on the pick and roll plays for sure but he will get it because he wants to become a great player. He has that special quickness that Monroe lacks plus his mind is in the game. I am so impressed with Drummond's character and really appreciate his character.

STUCKEY: Rodney had problems playing point guard in the first half but really settled down when it counted. And he saved the day with his offense for the entire game. I liked what Stuckey said in the halftime interview. He was brief but showed he knows what is going on and what is needed for the team to be successful. Stuckey appears to be taking on the role of a leader type.

SMITH: Josh is doing all the little things that helps a team win at times and he needs to keep doing it. This guy has all the talent in the world and must play at a high level for this team to get a 500 or better record before the season is over. He must play defense at an extremely high level every night.

KCP: Wow this guy is going to be really good. Wait until he fills out more and gets more experience. His shot is beautiful to watch. Just keep firing away without fear of missing and play tough defense KCP.

JENNINGS: Brandon was sent to the bench by Mo Cheeks last night in crunch time because he failed to defend. That was the right move by the coach. Still, I believe that Jennings has the ability to become a outstanding point guard. His best gift is his creativity and recognition of situations and how to exploit those situations. This team is still developing and Jennings has a killer instinct that I like but he must stay under control and become a better defender.

SINGLER: Kyle had a positive impact in this game with his defense and critical rebounding. He tires opposing players out with his physical style. Kyle was effective playing the All Star Knick small forward and also Cheeks put him on Smith to cool his ass down in the second half. The shots will start falling in the basket more consistently for Singler. He hit a big 3 pointer in the 2nd half.

DATOME: This guy is getting better and better. You can see that this team needs his outside shooting and his stroke looks really good. That was a great shot just before halftime. And Datome's defense is improving too.

SIVA:I liked the fact that Mo Cheeks has faith in this rookie and used him at a time when Jennings was unable to guard anyone. I think he changed the game a bit when he become physical and stayed in front of his assigned man getting over picks well too. Siva brings a better balance to the team than Bynum does because he is a better defender. I hope he continues to get some playing time.

MO CHEEKS: It is clear that the players love playing for this coach. Who wouldn't like playing for him. He knows what is going on and is calm and smart. Mo is the man in control and he is not afraid to sent rotation players to the bench if they are not doing their job on defense. Now if he can only impact Greg Monroe more and light a fire in his belly to bring it on defense.

FORUM Empty It Wasn't Pretty, But...

...the team is beginning to take shape, led by Rodney Stuckey's emergence as one of the leagues best 6th men, and Josh Smith's versatility as a SF.

Sebastian wrote:Stuckey is a tool. I heard Kelser, Mateen, and Stackhouse all say what I predicted back in July, Rodney Stuckey can become a serious candidate for 6th-Man of the Year.

Stuckey provides tremendous value to the Pistons, as a 6th-man. He can play both, the Point and Shooting Guard positions and guard the positions, effectively.

Stuckey if he keeps playing the way he has will likely be resigned by the Pistons for 3 years no matter who the GM is next season. Yes he's playing for a new contract and he should be, but a large part of his improvement belongs to the presence of CB and Cheeks allowing him to play his game something he wasn't able to do under Kuester and Frank as head coaches.

I can see a contract similar to what Jennings is currently getting if Stuckey isn't traded but no way Joe just allows him to walk without some form of compensation be it small or of equal value.

FORUM Empty Good Win and A Win Tonight Even Better

Post  WTF Wed Nov 20, 2013 8:52 am

The Pistons should win tonight against the Hawks because the Hawks are one of the teams the Pistons should beat as were the Lakers, but if they're not focus for full 48 minutes they will lose. I expect Josh and Rodney will remain consistent with their play tonight but both Monroe and Jennings must play better especially Moose.

The Pistons are much better playing a half court game and need to stop trying to push tempo every possession and learn to walk it up. Running is not their strongest attribute and they need to keep scores in the mid 80 point range
